I hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy and that you have been able to navigate the many changes over the last few weeks.
I am reaching out today because Minerva has decided to move our Learning to Lead program for Grade 11 girls online this year. We were in touch with your school earlier this year to invite nominations of students interested in leadership. We received a record number of applications this year and because we are moving the program online, we have been able to accept every student to participate. Because we have capacity to offer this program to more students, we are reaching out again to invite more of your Grade 11 youth to participate in the online version of Learning to Lead. Offered through Zoom this year, the program will run from Monday to Friday with two-and-a-half-hour daily leadership sessions. We will run this program five times, to five different cohorts of young leaders, starting on May 4th, 2020. We are offering two different timeslots to better accommodate students (3-5:30pm or 7-9:30pm). Sessions will feature a combination of informative presentations, small group discussions with the other participants, and words of wisdom from inspiring guest speakers. We have designed this to be an engaging and interactive experience. High-level agenda for the L2L program: Monday Welcome and Starting with the End in Mind: Leadership Tuesday My Strengths Wednesday Owning My Values Thursday The Mentor Friday The Not So Subtle Art of Confidence and Closing Activities Learning to Lead will be offered five different times during the below five weeks and timeslots. Please share this with the Grade 11 girls in your school and encourage them to register for the week that works best for their schedule using the appropriate Eventbrite link. There are a limited number of spots in each of the five weeks and it is first come first served.
More information about Learning to Lead can be found on our website: https://minervabc.ca/learning-to-lead/ News for Prospective StudentsGreetings from the University of Saskatchewan (USask). On behalf of everyone on our Student Recruitment and Admissions team, we hope both you and your students are well, and are continuing to adjust and cope with the effects of our shared efforts to combat COVID-19.
We have been working hard to ensure applicants and admitted students will not be negatively impacted by school closures, grading changes or exam cancellations caused by the pandemic. We’ve been listening to many of you who have written in with questions on behalf of your students, and sincerely thank you for your patience as we work to find solutions that have students’ best interests at heart. We will have more information to communicate with you, with applicants, and with admitted students in the coming weeks as further decisions are made. Please find below several updates we hope will help answer some of the questions you and your students may have. As always, we encourage you to visit USask’s Admissions website, as well as our COVID-19 Updates site, for up-to-date information. 2020 Fall Term We know that you and your students likely have a lot of questions about what is happening with the 2020 Fall Term, and we want to reassure you that we will be offering full-time programming in all colleges. We are having discussions now about how classes will be delivered, whether in-person or through remote delivery (e.g. online). This will depend partially on whether, and for how long, government-mandated travel and social distancing restrictions remain in place. Our top priority is to offer programming safely and in a supportive environment, and to give students the best experience possible under these circumstances. We hope to communicate more concrete plans to you and your students by mid-May as they start preparing to register for 2020 Fall Term classes. In the meantime, we encourage students to start reviewing online information for new students at students.usask.ca/new. If you have any specific questions we can help with, we encourage you to contact us at [email protected] or (+1) 306-966-5788. USask admissions office working remotelyAs one of the measures USask is taking to slow the spread of COVID-19, our staff are working remotely and have temporarily closed in-person services. Admissions officers are continuing to process applications as quickly as possible. If your students are awaiting an admissions decision, please have them check their application's supplemental items list and ensure all required documents have been uploaded. If students have any questions about applying to USask or about the status of their application, please encourage them to contact us by telephone during our regular business hours or by email anytime and we will reply as soon as possible. Email: [email protected] Phone: (+1) 306-966-5788 Hours of Operation: 9am-12pm and 1-4pm CST, Monday-Friday Closed weekends and statutory holidays Admission deadlinesMany programs at USask are still accepting applications. More information about U-Start dates and content will be available soon. In the meantime we encourage students to visit the New Students webpage. Spring and summer term classes to be held remotelyAll of USask's spring and summer courses will be held via remote delivery (e.g. online). With the change to remote delivery, some colleges have been adding new offerings to the spring and summer calendar; students are encouraged to continue to check class listings and availability. Students encouraged to get a head start in summerThere are lots of great reasons to take summer classes, and now that all spring and summer classes are offered remotely, students who had planned to begin their degree programs this fall are encouraged to think about starting early. Please refer to the English language proficiency requirements page for up-to-date information about acceptable proof of English language proficiency. Read the following for details about deadlines, information for students and schools. For Students Post-Secondary Selections Grade 12 and adult students can view and order their transcripts to be sent to PSIs, prospective employers and themselves on the StudentTranscripts Service at: www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/education-training/k-12/support/transcripts-and-certificates Students must create a Basic BCeID account to access their information. Distribution of Transcripts PSIs receive student transcripts through a variety of methods including XML data transfer, electronic batch files and more. PSIs with the new XML data transfer capability* receive transcript information throughout the year. For PSIs on the electronic batch process, interim transcript information is sent by the Ministry in early May, and final year-end transcript information is distributed in late July. As we look forward to Fall 2020, we recognize the current uncertainty you and your students are facing as a result of COVID-19 and the disruption of the final high school year for your graduating students. We’d like to update you on adjustments to admission deadlines and requirements related to University of Alberta admission to mitigate this disruption. Final High School Transcripts We anticipate that in most cases, final and official transcripts will be available, and we will use these final grades as presented. However, if a student is unable to provide final documentation due to closures resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Alberta will accept the grades and existing interim documents presented at the time of admission. English Language Proficiency (ELP) The Duolingo English Test will be made available to all applicants to undergraduate programs as an additional option to demonstrate English Language Proficiency for Fall 2020 admission. Fulfilling English Language Proficiency requirements through final results in English coursework (e.g., final blended grade of 75% in ELA 30-1) will no longer be acceptable for Fall 2020 admission. Students are now required to demonstrate English Language Proficiency with acceptable scores on an English language test. Tuition Deposit Deadline We are extending the deadline for applicants to pay their tuition deposit to June 1, 2020. Students are required to accept their offer and pay their tuition deposit to confirm their spot in their program, as well as to register in first year courses. Once the tuition deposit payment is reflected in Bear Tracks for Fall 2020, their registration will be activated within 3-5 business days. We are still hosting online Registration 101 Workshops to assist students through the registration process. Please visit uab.ca/reg101 for more information. When working with your students it may be helpful to reference this FAQ section on our website. Thank you for your patience and support as we’ve considered and made these decisions. We look forward to continuing to support you and your students! All the best, The University of Alberta National Recruitment Team |
