Returning to campus this fall raises lots of questions. Find answers in the recording above of a recent town hall held with BC’s Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry. For fall 2021, all new to TRU students will be attending their classes on campus and in person. TRU has a small number of blended or online classes available to students who are under extreme circumstances and are not able to make it to Kamloops for in person courses. Registration for fall 2021 and winter 2022 courses begins the week of June 21st and the fall and winter schedules are now available online to assist with student planning. Here are some helpful resources and supports for students:
Youth Mindfulness Group - The Youth Mindfulness Group is a free 7-week psycho-educational and support group for young adults ages 18-30 who experience anxiety. Participants learn healthy coping skills, connect with other youth in the community, and get support all in a safe and friendly environment.
Mindful Monkeys Group - Mindful Monkeys is a physical and mental wellness program for youth ages 8-12 that helps support youth to be more active and learn healthy coping strategies to manage stress and anxiety.
GLOW - GLOW (Girls Life of Wellness) supports young women and non-binary youth ages 8-14 in all five Dimensions of Wellness: physical, social, emotional, spiritual and environmental. During the program, youth meet in groups of 12-14 at the YMCA to have healthy skill-building discussions and participate in wellness activities.
Adult Mindfulness Group – Adult Mindfulness is a seven-week program for adults ages 31+ who are experiencing stress and mild to moderate anxiety. Participants will learn evidence-based strategies to increase coping. This group is led by trained mental health professionals and gives adults the chance to connect with others who are experiencing similar thoughts and feelings.
Circle of Security Parenting - The Circle of Security Parenting group offers a weekly education program for parents and caregivers to improve parent-child attachment. The program assists parents to better understand and respond to their child's needs and improve confidence in their parenting skills. This group is for parents/caregivers of children ages 0-5. The group is open to any and all caregivers (grandparents, separated parents, foster parents, etc.).
Live Guided Meditation - Join us for a free 20-30 minute live guided meditation session led by Counsellor and Meditation Teacher Jenna Nickle.
*NEW* Mind Outside 14-17 years - The YMCA offers this physical and mental wellness program to teens ages 14-17 who want to improve their mental wellness, learn new skills to cope during challenging times, and learn how to get active outdoors. The program is designed to support teens in learning how to incorporate outdoor physical activity and mindfulness into their mental wellness plan. During the program, teens meet in groups of 10-12 for 8 weeks to learn healthy coping strategies and to try new outdoor physical activities.

Coming into effect in Fall 2022, KPU has revised the entry route into the nursing programs that previously listed Health Foundations as an admissions requirement. These changes are to give students more flexibility in which courses they can take to meet the entry requirements to apply for nursing at KPU. This increased flexibility may also give students more options to use their course credits from KPU to apply for nursing programs at other institutions. As a result, for Fall 2021 all qualified applicants will be offered a seat for their second choice program and we will not be proceeding with a Health Foundation intake. Students planning on pursuing nursing can still start that journey by taking courses that meet the new admission requirements for nursing that come into effect in Fall 2022. For additional information about the new admission requirements, visit the University Calendar: calendar.kpu.ca/programs-az/health Students will begin to receive their offers of admission for their second choice programs this week. Students who accept their offer prior to June 22, 2021 will still receive priority registration in light of these changes. As noted previously, through this second choice program, they will begin to be able to work towards the admissions requirements for Nursing. Please encourage students to accept their offer prior to the June 22, 2021 deadline. Step 1: Login to Online Self-Service: kpu.ca/oss Step 2: Click Student Menu > Admissions > Pay My Deposit Step 3: Complete your payment Get Started Do you have any students that have decided to enroll at KPU? If so, please invite them to register for orientation so they can connect with KPU experts to learn more about the financial, social, and academic support available for them. For many first-year students, course planning can be stressful and time consuming. At our course planning workshops, experts will be able to support and guide your students in the correct direction before they start their first semester at KPU. "While we are preparing to have many programs, classes and labs return to in-person delivery in September, and much more than we had in this past term, the Fall Term should be considered “transitional” as we will continue to offer some classes remotely. We will likely not complete our full transition out of pandemic operations until at least January 2022, at the beginning of Winter Term." For the SECONDARY program, parents/students self-register through the link at the following Summer Learning page on the SD73 website. The registration link will be active the first week of June.
www.sd73.bc.ca/en/schools-programs/summer-learning.aspx PLEASE let your counsellors/families know that it is difficult for us to accommodate late registrations, so parents should complete the online registration by Tuesday, June 29. A common question is whether Secondary students can enrol in the full-credit version of a course that they haven’t taken before, to free up their timetable (or catch up a missing course). The answer to this is a firm “no” – students must have been previously registered in the course to enrol in secondary summer school. Parents will receive a confirmation email once they have registered (self-registration for secondary), and will be subsequently notified to confirm their student’s spot as soon as possible once classes have been configured. Summer School is for students in grades 8-12 who did not pass a core course and would prefer not to repeat the course the following school year.
