Important Tips
- READ THE CRITERIA
- Determine which awards are realistically available by checking the criteria and deadlines for each award.
- Check and make sure you meet the essential criteria. Applications from students who do not meet the criteria are often not considered.
- Maintain a high Grade Point Average (GPA). Most SCHOLARSHIPS are based on high GPA's.
- Develop your resume of activities and community service. Many awards have a high weight on your work outside the classroom too.
- APPLICATION PROCESS
- Read the application carefully. Due to limited funding, not all applicants receive scholarships, bursaries and/or awards. You should be careful and thorough when filling out your application to give yourself the best possible advantage.
- Many students fail to follow directions. Be sure to answer each and every question.
- Your application is a reflection of you. Always type (or neatly print using black ink) your application. Your application must appear neat and professional. Take pride in yourself by submitting the best application you can.
- Proofread your application. Pay attention to any blank spaces. Blank spaces can deem your application incomplete and it may then be ineligible.
- DEADLINES
- Do not wait until the last minute. Give yourself enough time to meet all the scholarship, bursary and/or award requirements. Submit your application and all documentation on time.
- Remember, this is a competition! It is not any different than when the timer has gone and a goal is not counted in a game because it went in after the clock was at zero.
- Use your cellphone to determine the proper time. If the deadline is at 3pm on May 1st, ALL cellphones have the same time.
