LEARN MORE ABOUT SEE NEXT STEPS: From application to MacEwan studentHere are a few things students need to know.
Stay engagedAll official communications are sent to applicants’ myMacEwan email account. This account is set up after an applicant submits their application. This is how it works:
How to accept an offer of admissionApplicants can check the status of their application, outstanding items and their to-do list by launching myStudentSystem in the student portal (myPortal). After an offer of admission has been made, applicants have 21 days to both accept the offer and pay the confirmation deposit. If no action is taken, the application will be closed. Learn more about how to accept an offer of admission here. Applicants who have questions about their application, or how to accept an offer of admission should contact the MacEwan Academic Advising Centre. Plan and enrol in classes Starting March 2024, new students (i.e., applicants who have accepted an offer of admission and paid the confirmation deposit) will have access to the enrolment shopping cart and Schedule Planner in myStudentSystem to begin planning their Fall and Winter term registrations. Students should consult the Academic Calendar to help with academic planning and to explore courses. If they require assistance with choosing classes, they can consult with MacEwan’s Program Advisors. The Academic Calendar is another great resource to help with academic planning and course exploration. Students will be assigned an enrollment date which will be posted in their myStudentSystem account. We encourage students to register in classes as close to their allocated time as possible, as many classes fill up quickly. How to Enrol Missing Grade 12 coursework? Admission offers can be delayed if the applicant hasn’t declared their current and next term high school course registration including the Grade 12 courses they have completed, classes they are currently in and the classes they will be taking next term. Applicants should include this information when they apply through ApplyAlberta, but if they forget, they can complete MacEwan’s Confirmation of High School Registration form (also accessible through the student portal). Applied to the wrong intake term? It’s a common occurrence for applicants to submit an application for the incorrect intake term, as intake terms on the application are listed chronologically. If an applicant applies to the incorrect intake term, they can get assistance by emailing [email protected] using their myMacEwan email account. Deciding between a first-choice and second-choice program? If an applicant is placed on a waitlist/rank list for their first-choice program, MacEwan will automatically begin evaluation of their second-choice program. As a result, applicants may receive an offer of admission to their second-choice program before their first-choice program. Applicants must indicate on myStudentSystem whether they wish to accept or decline the offer to their second-choice program. If they decline the offer of admission to their second choice, they can indicate they would like to “stay on other program’s waitlist” for the first-choice program. This means their evaluation for the first-choice program will remain active. Neglecting to indicate a wish to stay on the other program’s waitlist will close evaluation of both programs. If they accept the offer of admission to their second choice, the evaluation of their first-choice program will automatically be closed, and they will be removed from the program’s waitlist/rank list. Applicants who have previously declined an offer of admission to their second-choice program can email [email protected] to request an evaluation of the second-choice be reopened at any time prior to the program’s application deadline. APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN FOR PROGRAMS AT NEW SQUAMISH CAMPUS FOR FALL 2024
Capilano University is pleased to announce applications are now open for programs beginning at its new Squamish campus in September 2024. Fall 2024 will mark CapU’s first term of academic operations in Squamish at the new site. CapU is offering courses in the following programs in Fall 2024:
The University is also in conversations with Indigenous communities to discuss programming options specific for Indigenous learners. Each of the program offerings in Squamish are well-established CapU programs that are currently offered at the University’s campuses in North Vancouver or Sechelt. CapU arrived at this list of programs following a review of current CapU courses that could be offered in Squamish next year, a recognition of the locally identified need for ECCE training to fulfill labor market needs in the Sea-to-Sky region, and community conversations about the types of programs groups would like to see offered for local students. CapU has set a target of welcoming 120 students to study at the Squamish campus in September 2024. Course offerings in Squamish will continue to expand in future years as the academic and campus operations are further established and the student population grows. To register for the conference, your first step is becoming a member of the International ACAC. Application FAQs Does Western look at Grade 11 marks? We will consider a combination of Grade 11 and 12 courses. Check our website to learn more about how we review applications in Ontario and the rest of Canada. Does Western accept repeated courses?Yes, we will take the higher of two attempts. If you have taken a course more than twice, we may review an average of your attempts. What information do I need to submit? Once you submit your application on OUAC, we’ll need your grades. Then, depending on your program and circumstances, you may also need to submit supplementary forms. We don’t ask for any information about your extracurriculars, unless they are relevant in a supplementary form for your program. You may also choose to tell us about your extracurriculars in the Extraordinary Extracurricular Activities and Contributions to Citizenship Profile, if this has impacted your grades and you may fall marginally below requirements. What if I don’t have prerequisites/required courses for my program until last semester? You’re not alone! We will check to see that you are enrolled in required courses as part of our review and you may receive an offer without a midyear or final grade if you are a competitive applicant. Be sure your OUAC high school grade data (Ontario) or Self-Reported Grades Form (elsewhere in Canada) is accurate and complete. Will Western accept additional courses at a private school/online school? Yes! It’s important to make sure the school you choose is approved and accredited by the Ministry of Education. We may monitor your results for consistency with your home high school results and ask you to provide more information if we have questions. We want you to be well prepared for success at Western and beyond! In Ontario, you need to make sure your home school knows about these courses and reports them to OUAC. In the rest of Canada, you report these courses on your Self-Reported Grades Form. When will I hear back after applying? For Ontario high school students, we will make offer rounds from December to May, usually after high school grades are made available to the OUAC. If you haven’t received an offer, we’ll continue to review your application in each round until May. After this, we’ll provide you with a decision. It’s important to remember that you’re still being considered in each round, even if you haven’t had an offer. So, don’t worry if you don’t hear right away and be sure to check we have all your updated marks. For the rest of Canada, you can expect to wait an average of 4-6 weeks before you hear back from us. We make decisions on a rolling basis. This means decisions are released each week as we work down the queue of complete applications. Where can I find help applying? Watch our how to apply videos or check out our online application guide. Any more questions? Email [email protected].
