To tell you a little more about our program, we help Indigenous learners prepare and transition to undergraduate studies using small cohort-style classes and a supportive atmosphere. We offer first-year academic credit courses that integrate humanities and social sciences with Indigenous perspectives. Although a fairly young program, we have had the opportunity to open the door to a university education for our students through our unique approach to build foundations in math and writing as well. Interested applicants can consult can reach out to me ([email protected]), visit our online frequently asked questions or apply via our on-line application. I have attached (as both an image and a PDF) a one-page flyer including some information about our program. I would also like to emphasize that besides graduating students, this program may be of particular interest to mature learners, or any current (or former) youth in care since they may qualify for financial support to cover some of the costs of their education. We are pleased to announce that we have started making offers of admission to applicants who have applied for the fall 2022 intake. Last year we made 36% of our offers by December 15th, so there are still many more offers coming as Fall term grades are received. To help support your students, we've prepared the following FAQs: I received my offer of admission, what next? UCalgary has a specific webpage dedicated to support students with the next steps. Key next steps include: Pay their deposit to hold their spot: UCalgary requires that all students accept their offer by May 1, 2022 and pay a $500 non-refundable admission deposit. Details of their offer of admission and deposit deadline will be available at my.ucalgary.ca I received an offer, what happens to my other program choice? If a student receives an offer of admission to their first-choice program, this is the only offer of admission they’ll receive. We recommend students rank their application choices with their most desired program as their first choice. If a student receives an offer of admission to their second-choice program, they will still be considered for their first-choice program provided there is still space available in the program at the time they meet the requirements. In this scenario, most students will be automatically re-reviewed in February once first semester results are received. Students do not need to reapply and will be reconsidered automatically. For more information, please click here. I applied for a program with a supplementary application and have not received a decision, when will I hear my decision? Programs with supplementary applications (Bachelor of Health Science, Dance, Music, Visual Studies) make offers after the supplementary application has been reviewed. For Health Science applicants, we highly recommend that they complete their supplementary application prior to the December break. For Fine Arts applicants, most auditions will be held in February-March. Can I change my program choices? Students can change their application choices as many times as they wish until March 1, 2022 for no additional fee. For details on how to change a program choice, click here. I didn't receive an offer of admission in the first round. Does this mean I won't get in? This past cycle we only issued 36% of admission offers before December 15, 2021. The vast majority of students will receive offers of admission once first term results are released in the middle of February. What is the admitting average for my program? Admission averages are finalized once the pool of applicants is known after the March 1 application deadline and do change throughout the admission cycle. For students who have not received an offer, or who have not yet applied, we recommend that they consider the estimated competitive admission averages outlined on our website for ranges for our programs. Student Financial Aid The deadline for Prestige Awards is December 1st. If you have a student that is looking for additional support with their award application, I recommend that they consider joining us for our Undergraduate Award Webinar on November 23, 2021. At this session, we will provide advice on the awards process and showcase one of our winning applications from last year; providing commentary on why they were successful. To view our full monthly awards update, click here. New and improved! We are excited to highlight that we have completed a website redesign of many pages to our prospective student website. One website we want to feature is the new and improved Guidance Counsellor website. You will find a variety of new resources including our new "Preparing for a visit by a UCalgary Recruiter" section where we have downloadable posters that can be printed or displayed on your TVs at your school.
