News for Prospective StudentsGreetings from the University of Saskatchewan (USask). On behalf of everyone on our Student Recruitment and Admissions team, we hope both you and your students are well, and are continuing to adjust and cope with the effects of our shared efforts to combat COVID-19.
We have been working hard to ensure applicants and admitted students will not be negatively impacted by school closures, grading changes or exam cancellations caused by the pandemic. We’ve been listening to many of you who have written in with questions on behalf of your students, and sincerely thank you for your patience as we work to find solutions that have students’ best interests at heart. We will have more information to communicate with you, with applicants, and with admitted students in the coming weeks as further decisions are made. Please find below several updates we hope will help answer some of the questions you and your students may have. As always, we encourage you to visit USask’s Admissions website, as well as our COVID-19 Updates site, for up-to-date information. 2020 Fall Term We know that you and your students likely have a lot of questions about what is happening with the 2020 Fall Term, and we want to reassure you that we will be offering full-time programming in all colleges. We are having discussions now about how classes will be delivered, whether in-person or through remote delivery (e.g. online). This will depend partially on whether, and for how long, government-mandated travel and social distancing restrictions remain in place. Our top priority is to offer programming safely and in a supportive environment, and to give students the best experience possible under these circumstances. We hope to communicate more concrete plans to you and your students by mid-May as they start preparing to register for 2020 Fall Term classes. In the meantime, we encourage students to start reviewing online information for new students at students.usask.ca/new. If you have any specific questions we can help with, we encourage you to contact us at [email protected] or (+1) 306-966-5788. Admissions officers are continuing to process applications as quickly as possible. If your students are awaiting an admissions decision, please have them check their application's supplemental items list and ensure all required documents have been uploaded. If students have any questions about applying to USask or about the status of their application, please encourage them to contact us by telephone during our regular business hours or by email anytime and we will reply as soon as possible. How to apply U-Start U-Start is USask's annual pre-orientation event to help new students prepare for university. This year, pre-arrival information normally delivered through U-Start sessions will be delivered online through a variety of methods, including webinars, videos and live chats. More information about U-Start dates and content will be available soon. In the meantime we encourage students to visit the New Students webpage. Spring and summer term classes to be held remotelyAll of USask's spring and summer courses will be held via remote delivery (e.g. online). With the change to remote delivery, some colleges have been adding new offerings to the spring and summer calendar; students are encouraged to continue to check class listings and availability. Students encouraged to get a head start in summerThere are lots of great reasons to take summer classes, and now that all spring and summer classes are offered remotely, students who had planned to begin their degree programs this fall are encouraged to think about starting early. Students who have already applied for the 2020 Fall Term should contact the Admissions Office before July 2, 2020 at [email protected] or (+1) 306-966-5788 to request a change to their admission term. English language testsDue to the suspension of common English language tests offered at in-person testing centres, such as IELTS, USask will accept Duolingo English Test (DET) scores and TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition* scores for undergraduate direct-entry programs only for admission to the 2020-21 academic year. Please refer to the English language proficiency requirements page for up-to-date information about acceptable proof of English language proficiency. Undergraduate direct-entry programs include those offered by: Agriculture and Bioresources, Arts and Science, Education, Edwards School of Business, Engineering and Kinesiology. *As of April 2, 2020, the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition test is available everywhere that TOEFL iBT testing is normally available, with the exception of Mainland China and Iran. USask Language Centre offering spring and summer term classes remotelyThe University of Saskatchewan Language Centre (USLC) is already offering its 2020 Spring Term classes remotely, and will also be offering its 2020 Summer Term classes remotely. Placement tests will be offered online leading up to the start of term. All students currently registered at the USLC, including new admits, will be notified by email of this change. Please contact the USask Language Centre by email at [email protected] if you know of any students planning to register at the USLC in the 2020 Summer Term who have not been contacted.
