Events for your students
In addition to our participation in all PSBC and CUE events this fall, UVic will be hosting numerous virtual events that will be valuable for prospective students and their families, who are exploring the University of Victoria as a potential destination. These events can be found on the “Tours and Events” page of our website and include: Discover UVic Information Sessions: Designed for students applying to UVic for September 2021, but we welcome everyone who's thinking about studying at UVic in the future. Parent Nights: The same admission, scholarship and application procedure information that we share during traditional presentations along with some helpful information/tips on how parents/guardians can assist their students to successfully transition to life in university. Student Experience Panels: Virtual panel of current UVic students sharing their experiences and answering questions about life at the University of Victoria. Lectures and Seminars: Series of online lectures and seminars with guest speakers from UVic talking about a variety of topics and answering questions. New website Our brand new website launched late this summer, and it’s designed to help students effectively navigate program options, admission requirements, tuition fees, the application process and more. Please feel free to explore for yourself at uvic.ca/undergraduate. You can also reference our section of the website designed for high school counsellors. Digital viewbook You’ve likely received your UVic counsellor package, which included a copy of the 2021-2022 undergraduate viewbook. If a digital copy of the viewbook would be useful, you can find one here on our website. Admissions information
Program update Physical and Health Education (Bachelor of Arts) is a new program, offered by the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education, that forms the ideal route to becoming a school-based physical and health education teacher. Students should apply to the Faculty of Education and select Recreation and Health Education as their major. Students can request to transfer into the Physical and Health Education stream after one year of full-time study. Residence updates Construction is well under way for the two new residence buildings on-campus, which will house 621 new residence beds. The one-phase approach to construction will result in the deconstruction of Margaret Newton Hall, Emily Carr Residence and Cadboro Commons at once. This approach also requires the installation of a modular food services facility until the permanent new dining facility is operational. This modular dining facility will be operational from September 2020 to July 2022. More information about this construction project can be found here. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions that you or your students may have, and I’m happy to help you find the information you’re looking for. I can be reached by phone at 250-853-3584 or by email at [email protected]. Welcome back!
Whether you are working online or in-person this fall, the CUE Planning Committee is committed to ensuring that you and your students continue to have access to the information you seek from Canada's universities. The Committee has been hard at work through the summer to bring CUE 2020 to life in it's virtual form, and we are pleased to announce that our website will be launched soon. When it is, we will send you the link for you and your students to access. Traditionally, CUE is a tour of over 50 Canadian universities that visits Victoria-Nanaimo and the Greater Vancouver Area each fall. Students in grades 10-12 explore university options from across the country by engaging with university representatives at these booth fairs. Due to the nature of travel and gatherings this year, CUE 2020 will be held entirely online with different events scheduled for students and counsellors. Our move online expands our reach, and we would like to invite you, your students, and their parents and families to join us online for CUE 2020! All events are free to attend, but registration via our website is required. Student events are not high school or region specific. Students will be able to register and login for the CUE virtual events on the day that suits their schedule. Each attending CUE institution will be hosting online sessions during the times listed below, and we encourage students to explore these virtual booths with curiosity and an open mind. Student events are scheduled for: Monday September 28: 4-8PM Pacific Tuesday, September 29: 4-8PM Pacific Wednesday, September 30: 4-8PM Pacific Thursday, October 1: 4-8PM Pacific Saturday, October 3: 10AM-2PM Pacific Tuesday, October 6: 4-8PM Pacific Thursday, October 8: 4-8PM Pacific Click the link to access the website to register for the Canadian Universities Event cuebc.org/ This year we are once again offering (16) $1,000 bursaries for a total of $16,000 to grade 12 students.

Applications for Fall 2021 intake will open on Thursday, October 1. Application Evaluation When applying to the university through ApplyAlberta, students can select a first-choice and second-choice program. Students who have been placed on a waitlist for their first-choice program may receive an offer of admission on their second-choice program. They can decline the offer to their second choice and remain active on the waitlist for their first choice. If they do, they can re-activate their second choice before the application deadline to be reconsidered. It is important to note that they will be evaluated at the current competitive average (if applicable). Important notes about deciding between first- and second-choice programs:
Timing matters. Students are strongly encouraged to make a decision whether to accept an offer to their second-choice program as soon as possible. Many of our programs are first-qualified, first-admitted, and students who delay accepting their offer have the potential to be in a position of no seats remaining in the second-choice program. Competitive Versus First-qualified, First admitted Competitive admission is based on either academic requirements or a combination of academic and non-academic requirements. Competitive admission based solely on academic requirements requires applicants to present a competitive admission average, normally higher than the published minimum. Competitive admission based on academic and non-academic requirements such as an audition, portfolio, statement of intent or fitness test, are assessed against an admission rubric and ranked based on their admission score. Programs engaging in the first-qualified, first-admitted admission method admit qualified applicants based on the date they qualify for admission. Applicants are admitted until the program is full. Applicants are encouraged to apply early. Early Admission All programs automatically assess students for early admission. To ensure we have all necessary information, let your students know their ApplyAlberta profile should include all grade 12 classes completed, classes currently underway and classes they will be taking. Early admission is based on a student's final grades in grade 11 and/or grade 12 courses. Should applicants make changes to their course schedule after applying, they can update their admission file by using the Confirmation of High School Registration form. We do not require midterm marks, but providing us with the most up-to-date information may ensure applicants are properly considered for early admission. Open House Goes Online Fall 2020 is an unusual time for us at MacEwan. Like the rest of the world, we’re operating under a new normal in response to COVID-19. While it’s impossible to predict what our campus will look like in September 2021, we’re optimistic about the future. So this fall, we’re presenting Virtual Open House, where we’ll look ahead to a time when we welcome all of our students back to campus to study and experience everything that university life has to offer. On Saturday, November 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., MacEwan’s Virtual Open House will offer information sessions and online campus tours. Students will also have an opportunity to connect with our faculty and students to ask questions about our programs and life on campus – and be inspired by the possibilities MacEwan has to offer. Students should pre register for the event at MacEwan.ca/OpenHouse, and follow us on Instagram and Twitter for more details, including how to enter to win an educational award of $5,000! Please feel free to print copies of the Open House poster to display in your school. If your school uses screens to display messaging to students, we would appreciate it if you would include a pre-formatted 16:9 .jpg slide in the slide show. CapU’s Student Recruitment Team would like to take this opportunity to welcome you back for a new academic year.
