Admissions Update
Applications for Fall 2021 intake will open on Thursday, October 1. Application Evaluation When applying to the university through ApplyAlberta, students can select a first-choice and second-choice program. Students who have been placed on a waitlist for their first-choice program may receive an offer of admission on their second-choice program. They can decline the offer to their second choice and remain active on the waitlist for their first choice. If they do, they can re-activate their second choice before the application deadline to be reconsidered. It is important to note that they will be evaluated at the current competitive average (if applicable). Important notes about deciding between first- and second-choice programs:
Timing matters. Students are strongly encouraged to make a decision whether to accept an offer to their second-choice program as soon as possible. Many of our programs are first-qualified, first-admitted, and students who delay accepting their offer have the potential to be in a position of no seats remaining in the second-choice program. Competitive Versus First-qualified, First admitted Competitive admission is based on either academic requirements or a combination of academic and non-academic requirements. Competitive admission based solely on academic requirements requires applicants to present a competitive admission average, normally higher than the published minimum. Competitive admission based on academic and non-academic requirements such as an audition, portfolio, statement of intent or fitness test, are assessed against an admission rubric and ranked based on their admission score. Programs engaging in the first-qualified, first-admitted admission method admit qualified applicants based on the date they qualify for admission. Applicants are admitted until the program is full. Applicants are encouraged to apply early. Early Admission All programs automatically assess students for early admission. To ensure we have all necessary information, let your students know their ApplyAlberta profile should include all grade 12 classes completed, classes currently underway and classes they will be taking. Early admission is based on a student's final grades in grade 11 and/or grade 12 courses. Should applicants make changes to their course schedule after applying, they can update their admission file by using the Confirmation of High School Registration form. We do not require midterm marks, but providing us with the most up-to-date information may ensure applicants are properly considered for early admission. Open House Goes Online Fall 2020 is an unusual time for us at MacEwan. Like the rest of the world, we’re operating under a new normal in response to COVID-19. While it’s impossible to predict what our campus will look like in September 2021, we’re optimistic about the future. So this fall, we’re presenting Virtual Open House, where we’ll look ahead to a time when we welcome all of our students back to campus to study and experience everything that university life has to offer. On Saturday, November 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., MacEwan’s Virtual Open House will offer information sessions and online campus tours. Students will also have an opportunity to connect with our faculty and students to ask questions about our programs and life on campus – and be inspired by the possibilities MacEwan has to offer. Students should pre register for the event at MacEwan.ca/OpenHouse, and follow us on Instagram and Twitter for more details, including how to enter to win an educational award of $5,000! Please feel free to print copies of the Open House poster to display in your school. If your school uses screens to display messaging to students, we would appreciate it if you would include a pre-formatted 16:9 .jpg slide in the slide show.
