Meet the team
Admissions and Recruitment Specialists (previously referred to as Recruitment Officers) are assigned to school districts across Calgary, Alberta, nationally (within Canada) and internationally. My name is Jake Wong, and I am your designated Admissions and Recruitment Specialist, National - responsible for all British Columbia school districts. I am your personal point of contact for booking any presentations or other services our team can provide to you and your students this year. I am quite new to the recruiting world, but I have been at Mount Royal for over 7 years as both a student and employee and I do truly love our campus community! As a graduate of our Bachelor of Business Administration program, I have previously lived on residence, volunteered on campus, joined student clubs, studied abroad in Spain and worked on campus in a number of different capacities. I am very much looking forward to connecting with your students and speaking about the student experience here at Mount Royal. I would also like to introduce you to my colleague Melanie Parsons, Admissions and Recruitment Specialist, Indigenous. Melanie Parsons is responsible for Indigenous student recruitment and has been in the role of Admissions and Recruitment Specialist, Indigenous, for close to six years. Her main priorities are to connect with Indigenous students and communities and to provide admissions information through presentations, information booths, and both in-person and virtual meetings with prospective students and supporters. Melanie graduated from Mount Royal's Public Relations bachelor degree program and has since worked with First Nation organizations in various communication roles. She is also famously known for her own Indigenous jewellery line 'Savage Rose Designs' and other Indigenous Advocacy projects throughout Calgary. We are also proud that Melanie is Mount Royal's first Indigenous Admissions and Recruitment Specialist. Note from Melanie Parsons - “Each fall I look forward to connecting with new schools, organizations and students. Since starting this role in 2016, we have been able to extend our reach, helping hundreds of liaisons, counsellors and prospective students who identify as Indigenous learn more about our programs, admissions process and student resources. I am able to offer more opportunities now that we are able to offer virtual meetings and provide weekly information sessions as well as one-on-one appointments. Please feel free to connect with me directly to help support your school’s Indigenous students looking for pathways to University.” Melanie can be reached at [email protected] or 403-440-6229. Admissions and Recruitment services available this fall Virtual presentations While university and provincial health & safety measurements and protocols continue to change due to COVID-19, we have decided to only offer virtual presentations to high school classes at this time. If protocols become more relaxed, we will reevaluate and consider the opportunity to offer in-person presentations. We really hope we can be in-person again soon! Presentations can be customized to the needs and interests of your students and can be delivered during any regularly scheduled grade 10, 11,or 12 class time. We are also available during lunch hours or for evening events. 1:1 meetings Our Admissions and Recruitment Specialists are also available for 1:1 meetings with prospective students and their supporters to provide information on our programs and admission requirements. Currently we are offering meetings in-person, on campus, with a limit of 3 people (student plus 2 supporters). We will continue to offer virtual appointments as well. To book a 1:1 appointment, students can call us at 403-440-5000 and select option #5 any business day between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. We also have weekly Drop-in Virtual Admission Information and Planning sessions that students can register for through their Future Student Portal. Campus tours Campus tours can be scheduled during 1:1 meetings with Recruitment and Admissions Specialists.
