Do you work with students who are passionate about science and health research? On behalf of BC Children’s Hospital, I would like to invite you and your grade 10-12 students to participate in Mini Med School Vernon on Friday, May 3, 2024, 8:30 – 3:30 pm at the Prestige Vernon Lodge & Conference Centre (3914 32nd Street, Vernon).
Mini Med School is a free BC Children’s Hospital health science youth outreach program that connects high school students with big ideas, big discoveries and big names in health research. Presented by world-class researchers, clinicians and health professionals, Mini Med School includes a diverse curriculum that highlights leading-edge medical research, explores a variety of careers in health sciences and offers the opportunity to participate in hands-on science. 2024 program highlights include:
You can read more about the program schedule online at www.bcchr.ca/minimedschool. Admission is free but space is limited to 65 students. Student registration will be available online between Thursday, February 15 and Friday, March 15. To keep things fair for all students, participants will be selected based on a lottery draw. Mini Med School strives to empower youth and promote an equitable and inclusive learning environment. Further space will be available for students who self-identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis. Students registered from schools in all the surrounding areas are welcome to attend. As Mini Med School is a special event held outside the classroom, students will be responsible for making their own arrangements to miss a day of classes and for transportation to the venue. The Mini Med School Faculty is excited to be coming to BC's Southern Interior for the first time! Mini Med School is a travelling program with plans to be on the road for years to come! Previous locations have included Terrace, Fort St. John, Kamloops, Williams Lake, Chilliwack, Nanaimo and Nelson. We want to give as many communities as possible the opportunity to interact with BC Children's Hospital's faculty, so we will not be returning to Vernon again for at least 5 years. This is a unique opportunity for 2024. If you have any questions, you can reach our Mini Med School Team at [email protected]. If you’re interested in learning more about educational outreach opportunities presented by BC Children’s Hospital, we encourage you to subscribe to our newsletter.
