Reminders for students who have applied or will be applying
Students who have applied, or will be applying, to MacEwan should log in to the university’s student portal (myPortal.MacEwan.ca) to check on the status of their application and if there are any items on their to-do list. Outstanding items on a to-do list will delay an offer of admission. Admission offers can also be delayed if the student hasn’t declared their current and next term high school course registration: the Grade 12 courses they have completed, the classes they are currently in and the classes they will be taking next term. Students should include this information when they apply through ApplyAlberta, but, if they forget, they can complete MacEwan’s Confirmation of High School Registration form (also accessible through the student portal). Applying to the correct term All students currently enrolled in high school courses should apply to the Fall 2020 intake term. It’s not an uncommon occurrence for students to submit an application for the incorrect intake term, because intake terms on ApplyAlberta are listed chronologically. Students see the Spring 2020 intake as the first available option, and may miss selecting the Fall 2020 term. Many MacEwan programs do not offer Spring intake, so one indication a student has selected the wrong intake term is that the program they are interested in does not appear in the list of available programs. If a student applies to the incorrect intake term, they can get assistance by emailing [email protected] using their myMacEwan email account. Change to offer acceptance period Beginning with applications for Winter 2021 intake and beyond, students will have 21 days to accept an offer of admission. It is important to encourage students to check their myStudentSystem regularly throughout the admission cycle to ensure they’re aware of required actions and their timelines. Intake and deadline information for all programs can be found at: MacEwan.ca/Admissions > Dates & Deadlines Fall 2020 application deadlines If your students are planning to apply to a program for Fall 2020 please be sure they are aware of the application deadline for their program of interest. Programs at the university have either a March 30 or June 30 application deadline. The deadline for most of our competitive programs is March 30. The deadline for international students to apply for Fall 2020 intake is May 1. Please reinforce with your students the need to apply early for programs without competitive admission criteria. These programs admit on a first-qualified, first-admitted basis and may begin waitlisting before the application deadline. Students interested in applying for competitive programs that also have non-academic competitive criteria (e.g., audition, portfolio, fitness test, questionnaire, etc.) must submit an application for admission prior to submitting those non-academic competitive pieces. Winter 2021 applications open Applications for admission to programs offering an intake in the Winter 2021 term opened on February 1. Programs offering a Winter 2021 intake have an application deadline of either September 30 or November 30. The application deadline for international students is September 30 for all winter intake programs. Please note that not all programs offer a winter intake. Design Summer Camp Program MacEwan University’s School of Continuing Education welcomes high school students to get a hands-on university preview of the Bachelor of Design program through a one-week summer camp in July. Students ages 15 to 18 will work in fully equipped design studios in Allard Hall at City Centre Campus where they’ll collaborate, solve creative problems, work with software and learn about industry standards. Students will work with a university design instructor on projects, use the technologies they would in the design program classrooms and explore their interests in this field as a career. Design Summer Camp Program July 6-10, 2020, 10 a.m – 4 p.m. Allard Hall at MacEwan’s City Centre Campus MacEwan.ca/designcamp
