I'm pleased to announce that our first round of admission offers are starting to be released! Although these are unprecedented times, there is some degree of normalcy this month with excitement in our office to admit and send out offers of admission to our Class of 2025.
For the November issue of the UCalgary Counsellor Connection, we want to focus on both celebrating your student's achievements and help prepare you with information for our newly admitted students, and provide some helpful advice for those who didn't receive an offer in our first round. Admission Update The first round of admission offers were released today, but admission offers will continue until all positions have been filled. Admitted students will be mailed their admission package to prepare for their next steps on become a Dino. Students who receive an offer are required to confirm their acceptance by May 1, 2021, with a $500 non-refundable deposit. For more information, click here. If your student is still waiting on their initial review, we encourage them to ensure that all required documents on their to-do list have been uploaded. Once these documents have been submitted, they will receive a decision within 4-6 weeks. If your student did not qualify for an initial offer of admission, please highlight for them that UCalgary issues a small number of offers during our first round and the majority of students will receive a decision in February after the first semester is finished. When first semester grades are received, they will automatically be re-reviewed for admission. Should your student wish to change their program choices before the March 1, 2021 deadline, please review the following resource. This year SC have committed to virtual recruitment in the interest of the health and safety of our communities. TRU, as a proud member of SC, is pleased to invite all interested Indigenous learners to connect with 24+ vendors who have curated these opportunities, and who will be available live to chat and connect on a platform called EZ Virtual Fairs during the listed fair times. While we wish we could come to your communities as usual, with the current circumstances we do have the added benefit of including students from across the country, and allow for multiple opportunities to sign on and explore. The information will remain up on the platform for students to access at any time, and the listed fair times are opportunities to engage with the vendors and attend specific institution’s presentations. UWC offers a life-changing opportunity to finish high school in one of 18 extraordinary international schools around the world.
Once again we are seeking applicants in British Columbia for United World Colleges. UWC is a global education movement that makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. 2020, like no other year, has shown us just how interconnected our world is. More than ever we need inspired young people to embrace their global community and begin their path towards shaping our future. Students are selected from over 155 countries based on their demonstrated promise, potential and diversity. UWC believes that education should not depend on a student’s socioeconomic means, and many students receive either full or partial financial assistance based on their needs. UWC schools are for students aged 16-19, a time when young people’s energy and idealism can be guided towards empathy, responsibility and lifelong action. Students attend a UWC school for two years, earning the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, with many opportunities outside the classroom for experiential learning, community service and outdoor activities. Applicants rank their preferred campus placements around the world, one of which can be the incredible Pearson College UWC right here in BC. Tell your students that we are now welcoming applicants for the 2021 school year. The application deadline is November 15, 2020. This is an opportunity of a lifetime for a young person destined to be a leader and change-maker.
