While we’re always happy to answer emails and take calls to answer questions, prospective students can also book a 30 minute virtual appointment with their student recruiter at any time. Students can explore appointment availability and book their time slot here. With our application deadline approaching on January 31 and self-reporting opening on February 15, this will be a busy time of year with many application related questions. Our next Youth Empowering Youth program is starting on January 24th. This free program is available for youth between the ages of 13 - 18 and more information and how youth can sign up is included below.
About the Program Youth Empowering Youth (YEY) goal is to inspire the next generation of youth leaders. YEY creates a safe environment for youth to cultivate a sense of confidence, compassion and self-assurance. The program provides guidance to youth to be accountable for their own thoughts, feelings, and actions; helping them to become responsible citizens in this world. We believe that everyone has a unique gift and value to offer to make our world a better and more engaged place and our program will serve as a catalyst to help youth explore their talents and contribute to the community in a powerful, positive and meaningful way. Where: The sessions are delivered once a week for 90 minutes in an online class setting via Zoom When: Monthly start dates - next one starts January 24th Who: Youth between the ages of 13 -18 Cost: Free Register for an upcoming program at https://lowentropy.org/youth-empowering-youth/. The nine-week program is an online class setting that is run by two trained facilitators who are passionate about helping youth. The weekly 90 minute classes offer plenty of activities to encourage youth participation and teamwork. The curriculum is a developed from the Slight Edge Principles including: Ripple Effect Attitude Creates Your Life The Moment You Stop Blaming, You Take Back your Power Take Action! With small Steps Fail Forward to Success Drive Your Life with Powerful Habits Be a Student of Life Momentum is your Responsibility Graduation & Next Steps Upon completion of this program, youth have the opportunity to take on a leadership role and co-facilitate future programs to help empower more peers! This is a unique pathway for youth to gain knowledge and apply what they learn from the program in an engaging way to make an immediate impact. About us YEY is a program of Low Entropy, a registered Charity that is making personal growth accessible to all, and in doing so providing people with the tools to change themselves and the world. What’s unique about our program is that it has a template and a structure to foster growth and development in an intentional, adaptable, customizable, and scalable way. As a result of of Covid-19, we are aware that many schools will be taking different approaches with the high school semester structure (quad-semester, octo-semester, regular semester). Please note that this will not negatively impact your admission or the evaluation process. We will be evaluating students initially on their grade 11 courses or any grade 12 courses that have been already completed, as we have in previous years. I Have Applied When will an offer be made? How can I check the status of my application? Please log into your Student Centre (my.ucalgary.ca) to check for up-to-date messaging. Please ensure you are also reading any messages sent to the email address used on the application. I have been accepted. What do I do now? If you would like to attend UCalgary, accept your offer and pay the admission deposit by the deadline indicated on your offer letter and on your student centre. The $500 deposit goes towards your first semester tuition. If you have been accepted to your second choice and would like to consider this offer, you can choose to accept the offer. You will still be considered for your first program choice once we receive updated/final grades. If you are still in the process of making a decision, you can check out our tours website for resources that will give you a better idea of what our campus is like I have accepted and paid the deposit. Now what do I do? 1. Apply for residence (here). If you apply before May 1, 2021, you will be guaranteed residence for first and second year. 2. Determine your courses for Fall 2021/Winter 2021. Use your first-year degree guide (here) to assist in determining what courses to enroll in for Fall 2021/Winter 2021. If you have specific questions, contact your faculty academic advisors (here). It is a good idea to start building your schedule before your Enrolment Appointment Date. 3. Register. Enrolment begins May 2021. Detailed information about date/times can be found on your student centre, after you have paid your deposit. I Have Not Applied How can I apply for admission? When is the next intake period? Applications for Fall 2021 are now open online. Note—there is a January (winter) intake for Nursing (Degree Holder and Transfer) routes only. What undergraduate programs are offered at UCalgary? To explore over 100 undergraduate (bachelors) programs, visit here. Note—students from high school interested in Engineering must apply to “First-year Engineering”. Live sessions are scheduled for January 6, 7 & 8th! North Island College is honoured to acknowledge the traditional territories of the combined 35 First Nations of the Nuu-chah-nulth, Kwakwaka’wakw and Coast Salish traditions, on whose traditional and unceded territories the College’s campuses are situated. We are looking for ambassadors who are passionate about youth health and wellness and/or have some involvement in youth mental health/substance use in their communities. Relevant experience can vary from building a wellness centre or starting a community dialogue. Applications will be accepted from individuals and small teams of two to three people. There is a poster attached with more information if you are able to circulate this within your community.
Applications are due by January 15th, 2020 and up to 50 youth (12-24) and family members/caregivers will be accepted. What will Ambassadors do?
